Web Design Books & Resources

So you're the "do it yourself" type. That's perfectly understandable as we all have an inclination to learn something new and interesting every day. Like walking into a classroom to take a test you haven't studied for, you will inevitable fail or not do as well as you originally expected. We all have opinions about design and strategy. However, without thorough research and planning based on expert's experiences your once "perfect" design may turn out to be the complete opposite.

It's more than just point and click. It takes hours of preparation to create a website or a simple marketing piece that is not only unique in design but maintains it's integrity. There are many unforseen obstacles in the web development community related to browser compatiblity, site usability, bandwidth usage, page load times and security to name a few. Most books found here have their bindings broken, pages are dog-earred and the flourescent highlights add an effervescent glow to an otherwise "flat" book. *

Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things - William McDonough & Michael Braungart Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things - 2002 - William McDonough & Michael Braungart
Environmentalists are normally the last people to be called shortsighted, yet that's essentially what architect McDonough and chemist Braungart contend in this clarion call for a new kind of ecological consciousness. The authors are partners in an industrial design firm that devises environmentally sound buildings, equipment and products. They argue that conventional, expensive eco-efficiency measures things like recycling or emissions reduction are inadequate for protecting the long-term health of the planet. Our industrial products are simply not designed with environmental safety in mind; there's no way to reclaim the natural resources they use or fully prevent ecosystem damage, and mitigating the damage is at best a stop-gap measure.
